How to record credit card product changes

Complete guide to properly recording credit card product changes in My10x

What is a Product Change?

A product change occurs when you convert one credit card to another with the same issuer, keeping the same account but changing the card benefits. Common examples:

  • Chase Sapphire Preferred → Freedom Flex
  • Citi Premier → Custom Cash
  • Amex Gold → Green

Recording a Product Change

Step-by-Step Process

  1. Navigate to My Wallet
  2. Find your original card (e.g., Sapphire Preferred)
  3. Click the three dots (⋮)
  4. Select Edit
  5. Check the box 'I product changed to this card'
  6. New fields will appear - fill in the original card information
  7. Click 'Not the right card? Change here'
  8. Select your new card from the dropdown
  9. Save changes

Important Information to Track

When recording a product change, preserve:

  • Original open date (critical for 5/24)
  • Original card details
  • Whether you received the original bonus
  • Date of product change

Why Product Changes Matter

For 5/24 Status

Product changes do NOT count as new cards for 5/24. The original open date is what matters.

For Bonus Eligibility

Product changing doesn't reset bonus eligibility. You typically can't get a new bonus on a product-changed card.

For Annual Fees

Your annual fee will change to reflect the new card. Update this in My10x.

Common Product Change Scenarios

Downgrading Premium Cards

Example: Sapphire Reserve → Freedom

  • Preserves account history
  • Avoids annual fee
  • Maintains 5/24 status

Upgrading for Benefits

Example: Freedom → Sapphire Preferred

  • Gain travel benefits
  • Doesn't affect 5/24
  • No signup bonus available

Multiple Product Changes

If you've product changed multiple times:

  • Track the original card and open date
  • Note each change in card notes
  • Current system tracks one change at a time

Best Practices

  • Record product changes immediately
  • Keep original account information
  • Don't delete the original card
  • Update annual fee information
  • Note if keeping for benefits vs. fee avoidance

What Not to Do

  • Don't add as a new card
  • Don't delete and re-add
  • Don't change the open date
  • Don't mark the original as closed
